For the past ten years, the Catholic Church has grappled with the tragedy of child sex abuse by an alarming number of its priests. In Manchester, New Hampshire the aggression has come full circle.
On Saturday night a second priest came forward reporting that he was raped at gunpoint by a pre-adolescent child. The priest – whose name has been withheld – alleges that the child cornered him while walking home from a social gathering.
Based upon the post-rape interview with police, authorities say they are nearly certain the alleged rapist is the same pre-teen who allegedly raped a priest serving in the same parish.
Police describe the suspect as Caucasian, approximately 12 years of age, 5’5” in height, medium build.
“We might have ourselves a Justin Bieber mixed with Charles Bronson.” - Sexual health advocate Ron Bernard
The rape of males is unusual, but the alleged rape of an adult male by a pre-teen may be unprecedented in recent history. Sexual health advocate and author of I Am Healthy, I Am Sexy Ron Bernard said that the child may be seeking revenge for his own abuse. “We might have ourselves a Justin Bieber mixed with Charles Bronson,” said Bernard. “Rape is an act of aggression, and he must have a lot of pain driving this behavior.”
Officials would not confirm rumors that the two priests served the same church citing privacy concerns. “These religious servants deserve the same privacy as young women that have survived a sexual assault,” said Manchester City Chief of Police Anthony Manetti. Manetti asked that all priests in Manchester and the surrounding areas to use extra caution when moving about the city and, if possible, stay in groups.
Bishop John B. McCormick said that all of the priests in Machester Parish felt anxious leaving their quarters. “We have not been on the receiving end of this sort of thing before,” said Bishop McCormick. “It should be remembered that no priest has ever been accused of using a gun to coerce sex with a child.”
Bishop McCormick said that his security detail has been increased as a result of the assaults.
