Obama Campaign Cites Paint Pellet Drill Gone Awry To Explain Benghazi Disaster And Death Of Ambassador Stevens

On Sunday Obama Campaign surrogate and Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel told Bob Scheiffer on CBS’s Face The Nation that a paint pellet war game gone out of control might have caused the Benghazi disaster.

“We liberated these people,” said Emanuel.  “The idea that they would target our ambassador is ludicrous.”  According to Emanuel, Ambassador Stevens – killed during the firefight – might have organized a paint pellet war game on Sept. 11 but failed to notify local officials.

“We believe that the ambassador was an enthusiast of paint pellet games,” said Emanuel.  “He also liked to engage in unauthorized outreach with the local population so it is not difficult to see what happened,” he added.  Emanuel – along with other Democrats – suggest that the local militia in Benghazi might have believed that the paint pellet game was real and came to the defense of the Libyan side.

[T]here is a legitimate question whether American lives should have been risked to save him” - Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Perhaps in an effort to deflect blame from the Obama Administration, Emanuel said that Stephens’ paint pellet game was not sanctioned by the White House.  “The White House does not endorse these sort of events or fake gun play because they can get out of control,” he said.  If Ambassador Stevens was engaged in an unauthorized paint pellet game “there is a legitimate question whether American lives should have been risked to save him,” according to Emanuel.

Senator John McCain (R), a vocal critic of President Obama’s handling of Benghazi, said that there is not evidence of a paint pellet game.  “Where is the intelligence that there was a paint pellet game,” he said.  “This smacks of speculation.”

The Benghazi scandal grows daily and if not ignored by the media could impact the 2012 presidential election.  Recent polls show that Romney's small ripple in the polls could be growing into a medium-sized ripple.
