Las Vegas? - Don't Even Go There

Former Haunt of Sinatra and Dino Has Mutated into a Nightmarish Disneyland Designed to Rape You of Your Travel Dollars -- and Not Just in the Casinos

By RICK SEANS

I recently traveled to Las Vegas for a quick, romantic getaway on Valentine’s Day.  My conclusion about Las Vegas: don’t even go there.

It had been years since I stepped foot in this oddball desert city.  Nearly all of my prior visits had been for the primary purpose of picking up single women at nightclubs.  It was not a bad place for this, and perhaps it still isn’t.  If picking up girls at nightclubs is not your reason to go there, then here is why you should think twice about going:

Everything Is Financial Rape

With all the new rape consciousness in this country, you would think that they would outlaw the city of Las Vegas altogether – the city is the embodiment of rape.

Imagine if you paid $1,000 to go to spend two days at Disneyland, but they had taken out all the rides.  Now imagine that Disneyland is located 300 miles from any other urban center, so you had no choice but to spend forty-eight hours paying exorbitant prices for your food, drinks and entertainment.  If this sounds good to you, then you should stop reading now and start driving to Las Vegas.  If it doesn't, keep reading.

Hotels: Before you even get to Las Vegas, they rape you from afar.  Virtually all of the hotels charge what they call a “resort fee.”  What is a resort fee?  Oh, it’s just a way of defrauding you when they list the price of your hotel room.  The resort fee allows them to list a room for $265 when really the room is $300.  If you think this is a bad omen, you would be perceptive.

Food: The food in Vegas is not bad, but it is overrated.  If you live in a large city and know the best spots you will do just as well, with a few very expensive exceptions perhaps.  At the hotels, however, you will be raped.  If you order room service, there are annoying add-in charges that do not make any sense.  A “service fee” that is not a tip?  I have to pay extra for the service and then tip the service?  Why not charge me a “plate fee” and a “silverware fee” while you’re at it?

Shows: I warned my date upfront that we would not see any shows during our brief stay since they are priced obscenely.  Low and behold, on Valentine’s Day she received a snarky text from a girlfriend that I thought somehow demeaned my efforts on this so special day.  I thought to myself, “It’s not even about my date; it’s about me not feeling like a chump.”  After all, who brings a girl to Las Vegas on the most important day of the year for romance and does not take her anywhere?
