President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama haven't been photographed together since December 22. Barack has attended state dinners alone and Michelle is vacationing separately in Hawaii.
So what’s really going on with Washington DC’s most celebrated couple? In an The LBT exclusive, two close confidantes tell The LBT that they’ve decided to take time apart: “They're taking a break and assessing where things are,” one source says.
Neither Barack nor Michelle has filed for divorce or moved toward a legal separation, sources say. But a friend of Michelle says that might not be too far off.
“Michelle likes big, brawny African-American types, and Barack is sort of scrawny and acts white,” said the friend of Michelle. “He's sweet and she will always care for him but she misses real black culture – I mean, urban hip-hop which was so much a part of her life growing up in Chicago.”
Another friend of Michelle implied that her time with Evander could lead to something substantial. “Right now Evander's strength makes her feel safe,” she said.

If Michelle likes brawny and urban, she may have found her new beau with ex-heavyweight boxing champ Evander Holyfield. They were spotted close dancing at Honolulu’s tony Tiki Lounge and Poke Kitchen. Michelle did not seem very concerned about word getting back to D.C. In fact, White House photographers caught Barack trying to reach her on his cell phone while she was in the arms of hunky Evander.
The president’s friends shot back in his defense. “Barack is busy and doesn’t have time to work out like some retired boxer,” said an anonymous Barack buddy familiar with the situation. “Maybe if Michelle didn’t have the arm muscles of Clubber Lang she wouldn’t need a 'roided out former athlete,” he added.
The A-list pair, who wed in 1992 in a lavish celebration at Chicago’s Sheraton Plaza Hotel, have faced more than their fair share of ups and downs over the last six years – between Obama’s health care imbroglio and Michelle’s child obesity program failures. “The stress has taken a toll on their marriage,” a friend tells The LBT.
Says one family friend: “Michelle might stick it out until after they have to move out of the White House and then start making up for lost time with some of her single girlfriends.”
