The White House Gets The Itch To Prepare Americans For Scabies Spread
Wendy Klein-Morgenstern, a Missouri City, Texas, parent of a nine-year-old girl preparing for third grade, said that scabies risks did not bother her. “Some on the right are trying to scare us about scabies,” she said. “The truth is that it [scabies infection] probably would teach our kids about a bit about what life is like in tougher parts of the world – and that’s important.”
Santa Marino biologist and infectious disease specialist Margaret Werner-Hayes said that Americans should embrace the biological Diversity from Central America. “A lot of people are getting worked up about something that people in Central America have been living with for centuries,” said Werner-Hayes. “Scabies are about as scary as mosquitoes.”
Many on the far-right have attempted to leverage scabies as a reason to militarize the southern border. “Americans should have a right to decide whether scabies becomes a part of our culture,” said American Border Civilian Guard president Nathan Hecht.
